[Fall Quarter]
The class began this quarter by discussing social issues occurring around the world. The class took an in-depth look at which issues Japan was facing that the rest of the world could look to for reference. After discussing as a class, the students split up into groups or pairs. In their group/pair, students chose a theme to further research based on their own majors or fields they were interested in. The most common topics were "black (exploitative) companies", "the battle of entrance exams", and "university students' stress over job hunting". Other common topics included "support for study abroad students" and "the problem of child poverty". The students thought about what kind of project they could create for the San Diego community using these topics and submitted a proposal at the end of the quarter. |
